September 18-19, 2021, Central Whidbey welcomes the Whidbey Island Kite Festival to the Camp Casey Conference Center, just south of Coupeville.
Set against the majestic backdrop of the Olympic Mountains and Puget Sound, the kite festival features impressive ground and air displays of color and imagination. Activities include kids' kitemaking, sportkite lessons, and sportkite demonstrations.
Sportkite competitions and demonstrations take place both Saturday and Sunday. The Whidbey Island Kite Festival is an AKA-sanctioned (www.kite.org) event.
The Whidbey Island Kite Festival is presented by the Whidbey Island Kite Festival Association and the Whidbey Island Kite Fliers (www.whidbeykiteclub.net). It's a wonderful, fun-filled outing for the entire family.

There will be two mass ascensions - one Saturday 12:30 and one Sunday 12:30. A mass ascension is where competitors are invited to fly a kite of the specified style/theme on the field at the same time. The style of kite for Saturday is either delta or cellular and Sunday is flat/bowed or sparless.
FREE Activities for Kids/Teens/Visitors:
A teddy-bear drop each day at 12:00 for children under 10 ( A teddy bear/stuffed animal is dropped to kids from a kite's parachute)
A "running of the bols" game for those under 16 at noon each day.
(This is a foot-race where kids strap a provided kite to themselves, run lifting it into the air, and head for the finish line).
Kite-Making Activity
A "Free-Fly" area where you can fly a kite you have brought to the festival - or the kite you make while there
The Central Whidbey Lions Club will have a booth at the field with hot dogs and soda.
**Indoor Kite Flying Competition Saturday Evening:
Watch kite fliers in these indoor kite flying competitions- 7:30 PM at Coupeville High School Gym (501 S. Main St.)
Admission is FREE.
