“Living History” at Fort Casey:

Come and learn what life was like for a soldier in World War 2. 

The 9th Coast Artillery District will be hosting these interesting views into our history at Fort Casey on
November 11 and 12, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
November 13, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Demonstrations will be presented at random intervals.  These events are free; however, a Washington State Parks Discover Pass is required for parking.  Facebook.com/FriendsofWhidbeyStateParks.

“A Bright Course for Parents”:  Pregnancy Care Clinic of Whidbey Island has launched a new parenting class platform, offering over 200 classes to choose from, some of them are available virtually.  The prenatal and parenting classes can earn clients baby bucks at every class to shop in their boutique. After 8 classes, clients earn a free layette filled with lots of things for newborn baby. Clients can also choose to earn a free convertible car seat or free crib with mattress by attending 10 or 12 parenting classes (respectively).  Call 360-675-2096 to register and for more information.  






The Whidbey Island Arts Council is offering FREE basic art supplies for the Whidbey School's Children.

“Are Your Seats Safe?”:  Caregivers transporting children in vehicles are encouraged to have their car seat/booster seat installation and use checked by a nationally certified Child Passenger Technician in Oak Harbor, at the Oak Harbor Fire Station, any time between 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., on the first Tuesday of March, May, July, September or November.  Car seat checks are free.
Reservations are required and can be made, by e-mail, to CarSeatsNW@gmail.com, with your requested appointment time, as well as the ages of your children. Bring your vehicle owner’s manual and the car seat’s manual to the safety check.   Private appointments are available, contact Safe Kids Northwest for a certified car seat technician. Marine Life and the Nature Around You:  The Port Townsend Marine Science Center offers a variety of inspiration, activities, and printables including nature mapping, and scavenger hunts, as well as other online activities and education. They also list resources for free courses, webinars, and other informative websites about the ocean and marine science.  One of the coolest links connects you to live animal cams at the Monterey Bay Aquarium, where you can view jellyfish, penguins, sharks, and more.  The Port Townsend Marine Science Center and Aquarium is located in Fort Warden State Park, and is open to the public on weekends.  Ptmsc.org.


Hiking Close to Home:  Whidbey Island is home to many great hiking locations.  Author and hiking guide Maribeth Crandell and retired Washington State Parks Manager Jack Hartt have a blog that features a “Hike of the Week”, with descriptions and details about these locations, including directions, whether you can get there on bus or by bike, accessibility, and other information, encouraging you to take in the beauty that is around us, on foot.  They are also the author of “Hiking Close to Home”, of which the 2022 edition has just been published:    Hikingclosetohome.weebly.com.

  • Nov. 25 — Autumn Day

Free days apply only to day use (not overnight stays or rented facilities). Free days are valid at state parks and Washington State Departments of Natural Resources and Fish & Wildlife lands. Sno-Park permits are still required on free days at designated Sno-Parks during the winter season.

The North Whidbey Aquatic Club is hosting try-outs!

If your child is interested in joining an amazing sport, then this is it!

The North Whidbey Aquatic Club is a parent-run, not-for-profit, year-round competitive swimming program.

The Blue Heron are affiliated with Pacific Northwest Swimming (PNS), a committee of USA Swimming.

Our club includes swimmers of all abilities and all ages

Skills to start include being able to swim 1 lap on stomach and 1 lap on back without the use of assistance (flotation device/holding onto the wall or lane line).

All strokes and techniques will be acquired during practices.

Healthy Island Youth Initiative Scholarships:  HIYI Scholarships can be requested to cover an Island County youth’s sports registration fees, equipment vouchers, and other expenses that are a barrier to pursuing an organized physical activity. The goal of offering HIYI Scholarships is to provide confidential support to Island County youth who, without this financial assistance, would not be able to participate in a physical activity that meets their interests. Qualifying families need to be receiving assistance for either free or reduced school lunches, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), Aid for Dependent Children, or be a foster child.  360-678-7935.  


“Coffee and Conversations for Caregivers” Connect with other families that "get" the highs and lows of raising a child with special needs. You are not alone. Hosted by Island County Parent to Parent, this is a casual opportunity to meet others, ask for support and/or resources, or just talk about life in general. The daytime meeting is the first Wednesday of the Month, 11 a.m.- Noon at Whidbey Coffee, by Wendy's in Oak Harbor.  The nighttime "Zoom" meeting is the same day, in the evening from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. To RSVP and receive the Zoom link, email t.wheeler-thompson@islandcountywa.gov. Ryan's House for Youth Drop-In Center is Open!

Located at: 35 SE Ely Street

Hours: Monday through Friday  11 AM to 7 PM

Are you between the ages of 12-21 years old and looking for a safe place where you can work on school work or grab a snack? We are welcoming you to our new Drop-in Center located in Oak Harbor. This is a space to work on your school work, utilize computers, hang out, and receive help from a capable Youth Advocate to obtain your goals. We are here to help!

• Are you 12-21 years old needing a safe or
quiet space to hang out and do school work?

• Are you wanting someone to talk to?
• Do you want help making a resume or looking
